What is Yoga Therapy?
Although many people have heard of yoga, not as many have heard of the rapidly growing profession, yoga therapy. Yoga was developed over 5,000 years ago as a comprehensive system of health and wellbeing and consists of a wide variety of traditions and practices. The word yoga is believed to derive from the Sanskrit root “yuj” meaning union, to bind, or concentrate one’s attention. Yoga continues to be the most commonly used complementary therapy by adults in the United States, with rates increasing each year.

As a yoga therapist, I have experience teaching movement, breathing, meditation, and philosophy tailored to the individual. There are numerous ways to do the physical movement of yoga, 100s of breathing techniques, and a number of meditation traditions. They all work to promote well-being and optimize daily life but they affect each individual differently. It is my job to know which techniques will work best for you. To identify the ones that will help relieve your pain and suffering.
